Kunta Kinte Festival
Volunteers are needed now and Saturday, Sept. 29, for the 25th annual Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival being held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Annapolis City Dock. Information: 443-623-2856, kuntakinte.org or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Captain Avery Museum
Volunteers are needed to serve as docents and escort visitors through the Museum from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays and at special functions. On some occasions, they would be dressed in a costume typical of the 1860s. Training is provided. Information: 410-867-4486.
The county needs volunteers with good customer service skills to meet and assist clients at its Annapolis and Glen Burnie offices. Volunteers are also needed to supervise foster children the first Tuesday of each month from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Annapolis. Jug Bay Wetlands
Volunteers, children and adults, are needed to collect water samples, clear trails, weigh turtles, guide visitors on nature walks, draw maps, lead canoe trips, make posters, seine for fish, host the Visitor Center on weekends, and more. The department seeks male volunteers to mentor at-risk male youths living in the west and north part of the county. Mentors are matched with at-risk youth ages 8-20 in the Child Welfare Program. Tutors are needed for combating adult illiteracy in the county. After training, tutors can choose their own schedule and locations with assigned students or can tutor at local detention centers.
