The Department of Aging and Disabilities will present a free six-week workshop series from 12:15 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Thursdays through May 19, at the Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road in Glen Burnie. "Living Healthy With Chronic Conditions" is a self-management program to help adults handle chronic health conditions, including diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, obesity, pain, anxiety and heart disease. Presenters will also share techniques for dealing with frustration, fatigue and isolation. Learn about appropriate exercise and medications, communication with family and health professionals, nutrition and evaluation of new treatments. •The trip committee at the Annapolis Senior Activity Center is accepting reservations for a trip to Ladew Topiary Gardens in Monkton on June 2. The trip will include a tour of a rose garden, cottage garden, water garden and the Ladew house, which is decorated with English antiques, paintings, photographs and hunting memorabilia. After the tour, participants will have a family-style luncheon at Friendly Farm Restaurant and browse the restaurant's country shop, which offers gifts, scents, sweets and baked goods. Cost is $75. •The trip committee at the O'Malley Senior Activity Center in Odenton is accepting reservations for a trip to Allenberry Playhouse in Boiling Springs, Pa., to see "Hello, Dolly!" The bus will leave the senior center at 1275 Odenton Road at 9:15 a.m. June 22 and return at 5:15 p.m. A buffet lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m., and show begins at 1 p.m. Cost is $85, with a $25 deposit due with reservation. The county Department of Aging and Disabilities has published the 2010-2011 edition of "Services for Seniors, Adults With Disabilities and Caregivers," a free directory of businesses and service providers. Copies are available at department headquarters at the Heritage Office Complex, 2666 Riva Road, Annapolis; at the seven senior activity centers; at library branches; and at Food Lion, Wawa and CVS stores. Arnold Senior Activity Center The following activities will be offered at the center, 44 Church Road, Arnold:

•Scrabble: Challenge your brain by playing Scrabble, 12:45 p.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays. New participants are welcome.

•"Memoir writing," a course on autobiographical writing, meets from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays. There will be an opportunity to learn listening and interviewing skills, writing tips and proofreading. Registration required.

Single seniors group The Single Seniors Group at Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road in Glen Burnie, encourages companionship, support and group participation in activities such as movies, dances, picnics and tours. Information: 410-222-6680 or and click on the senior center.

Health insurance A representative from the Senior Health Insurance Program is available by appointment to discuss health insurance concerns at the Arnold Senior Activity Center. Appointments and information: 410-222-1922.

Volunteer grandparents The Foster Grandparents Program of the county Department of Aging and Disabilities seeks volunteer grandparents to mentor children with special needs. Volunteers serve 15 to 40 hours a week, providing mentoring, tutoring, advice and attention. Volunteers also teach life skills to children in special education classes and provide staffing for a homeless shelter, family support center and other agencies. Activities may include reading stories, listening, helping children feed themselves, setting the table, working with puzzles, and helping children learn colors, numbers and the alphabet. Volunteers must be income-eligible and at least 60 years old. Benefits include a tax-free stipend, paid training, vacation, sick leave, free transportation, lunch and a physical exam.
