Anne Arundel County police have identified the officer who shot and wounded a Pasadena man Thursday.
Officer Jeffrey Szczeszek, a three-year veteran of the department assigned to patrol in the Eastern District, was placed on routine administrative leave while the shooting is investigated.
Police have said that Szczeszek approached a man that he saw jumping up and down on the hood of a minivan about 10:19 p.m. Thursday, and that when the man charged him, he deployed his Taser. According to police, the man, identified as Richard Anthony Malczewski Jr., then assaulted a 19-year-old woman when she got out of the vehicle, and the officer used the Taser a second time. Malczewski, 20, removed the prongs and continued his attack on the woman, police said.
Malczewski again charged the officer, and Szczeszek shot and wounded him, according to police. Malczewski was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.
Malczewski, of the 300 block of Riverside Drive, was expected to be charged with second-degree assault and related counts, according to police.
