Girls basketball roundup: St. Mary's beats Key for Miller's 300th career coaching win

Ashley Roy had a career-high 13 points, all in the first quarter, and Chuck Miller notched his 300th career win on Friday as St. Mary’s defeated Key, 58-10.

Miller recorded 284 wins in his 16 seasons at Severn and had 14 wins in his return to coaching last year at St. Mary’s. Friday’s win evened the Saints’ record this year to 2-2.

Claire Richardson added eight points and eight rebounds and Karry Kelliher had game-highs with 10 rebounds, four blocks, three assists and three steals.

CHESAPEAKE 57, NORTH COUNTY 39: Haley Downin led the Cougars with 18 points, four assists, three steals and six rebounds as they downed the Knights.

Ashley Chew added 15 points, four assists and three steals and Morgan Gray contributed 10 points and 15 rebounds. Summer Smith had 10 rebounds along with six assists and Corinne Castle had eight rebounds and eight points for Chesapeake (2-0).

Jalyn Baynard had 11 points and five rebounds and Brandi Shaffer added nine points and six rebounds for the Knights (0-1).

SEVERNA PARK 53, SOUTHERN 27: Rachel Ward scored 11 points and Jess Albert contributed eight points and a team-high eight rebounds for the Falcons (2-0).

Lena McLaughlin added eight rebounds and four steals and Kelsey Powers had four steals for Severna Park.

SOUTH RIVER 65, ANNAPOLIS 53: Harley Herndon led the way with 22 points as four Seahawks scored in double-figures in their win over the Panthers.

Ashlynn Burrows added 14 points, Kathleen Sullivan scored 13 points and Julia Fitzwater scored 12 points for the Seahawks (1-0).

Angel Colbert scored 13 points and Elizabeth Gilman and Catherine Gilman each scored 10 points for the Panthers (0-1).

NORTHEAST 60, MEADE 48: Devine Benson led the Eagles with 18 points as they dropped the Mustangs (1-1).

Allyson Wills added 13 points, Ryleigh Nalley had 11 points and McKenzie Coburn blocked six shots and had eight points for Northeast (1-0).

MCDONOGH 55, SPALDING 41: Koi Sims had 14 points and 15 rebounds, but the Cavaliers fell. Ryann Evans added 10 points for Spalding (2-1).
