Spalding's Watson, Winokur to play at the next level

A pair of Archbishop Spalding High School football players made their college choices official on Wednesday, the first day of the new early signing period, which runs through Friday.

Outside linebacker DaeSean Winston signed with Temple and two-way lineman Cody Winokur made things more official with Army West Point.

According to Cavaliers’ coach Kyle Schmitt, Winston is one of the best athletes to ever attend Spalding. He runs a 4.4 40-yard dash and is 6-foot-2, 200 pounds. He projects as a safety/Sam linebacker in college with the ability to cover in space, but can also rush the quarterback off of the edge. He has a chance to see the field immediately on special teams at Temple. He was a two-year starter at Spalding and played on the varsity all four years.

Winokur is a dominant two-way lineman at Spalding, starting his first three years on both the offensive and defensive lines before suffering a broken leg and missing his entire senior season. He is one of the top linemen in the MIAA A conference, garnering first-team all-met/all-state honors as a junior. He is currently projected a guard/center and plays with an edge that is a perfect fit for the toughness of the reigning CIC champion Black Knights.
