A 16-year-old from Severn was shot in the leg in the area of Newtowne Drive Wednesday night, Annapolis police said Thursday morning.

While patrolling the area on foot Wednesday, an officer heard gunshots being fired in the 700 block of Newtowne Drive around 11:30 p.m. Additional officers were called but they did not locate a victim, according to police.

A few minutes after the search, officers were notified that a shooting victim arrived at a local hospital.
