Man rescued after falling 20 feet on a shipping vessel

Annapolis and Anne Arundel County first responders rescued a man who fell 20 feet on a shipping vessel Thursday morning, fire officials said.

Emergency personnel responded to a 10:57 a.m. emergency call after an unidentified man fell from a ladder while working on a vessel in the Chesapeake Bay, said Annapolis fire spokesman Kenneth White. The Annapolis and Anne Arundel fire departments, as well as the United States Coast Guard, responded to the vessel.

The man slid down a 20-foot, angled wall while working in a 100-foot hold and injured his thighbone. He did not fall 100 feet through a hole as previously reported by the fire department. Fire boats transported him to City Dock, where a paramedic unit received him. A medevac then transported him to a local trauma center.

No first responders were injured during the rescue.
