Annapolis police department busts one business for tobacco sales

The 24/7 Fuel Mart on Forest Drive illegally sold tobacco to a minor during an Annapolis Police Department “tobacco sales compliance” check.

Thirty-six businesses were checked with only one failing, police said. The department does this by working with minors who try to purchase the cigarettes or other tobacco product in the shop.

The clerk was issued a criminal citation.

Unlike alcohol violations, there is no city oversight board for tobacco.

The Alcohol Beverage Control Board oversees alcohol violations. In those cases, both the clerk and the business are cited. District court handles the clerk’s citation while the city’s alcohol board punishes the business.
