Kent Island's celebrity ospreys Tom and Audrey are parents again

Rachael Pacella

Last year Kent Island osprey couple Tom and Audrey laid three eggs — and lost all three to crow attacks.

Nature can be cruel.

And resilient.

The birds returned to their nest last month. And on Thursday an egg was spotted in their nest by the Chesapeake Conservancy, which provides an online livestream of the nest annually in partnership with and the “Crazy Osprey Family” that keeps an online blog detailing the happenings of the birds.

Conservancy spokeswoman Jody Couser said Audrey laid her first egg at 4:51 a.m. Thursday.

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology says ospreys lay a clutch of between one and four eggs.

Will this brood be successful? Will the egg hatch?

Only time can tell.
