Woman suffers severe burn injuries in house fire on Old Generals Highway

A 44-year-old woman suffered severe burn injuries in a house fire on Old Generals Highway Thursday. She was able to get out of the house and firefighters found her outside when they arrived.

She was taken to the Burn Center at John Hopkins Bayview Hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries, according to the Anne Arundel County fire department. No one else was injured.

The county and Annapolis fire departments responded at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday and put out the fire on the first floor of the two-story single family home in less than 10 minutes.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit. It has been determined that the home did not have working smoke alarms, according to the county fire department.
