Man struck by light rail in Ferndale

A 49-year-old man was taken to the hospital Monday after he was struck by a light rail train near the Ferndale Station in Glen Burnie.

Emergency responders were called to the scene of a pedestrian struck by the train as it approached the Ferndale stop at 7:15 a.m., said Capt. Russ Davies, spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

Davies said the man was struck as he was attempting to cross the tracks before it arrived at the stop.

Davies said the man only sustained minor injuries as the train was already coming to a stop. He was knocked over, but not dragged by the train, he added.

Davies said the man had crawled out from under the train by the time responders got to the scene and was taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with minor injuries.

The incident caused minor delays for the light rail, but service has since resumed.
