Police say an Annapolis man died after he suffered critical injuries in a motorcycle crash in Gambrills Saturday.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department originally reported that a man had been taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Saturday after he crashed his motorcycle on the 700 block of Crain Highway.

Anne Arundel police said officers responded to a report of a motorcycle crash in the area of Crain Highway near Churchview Road at 3:50 p.m. Saturday.

Police said Monday the motorcyclist — Jonathan David Aorillo, 22, of Annapolis — was driving on Crain Highway when he lost control of his 2011 Yamaha R1.

Aorillo was thrown from the motorcycle, police said, and was struck by a Ford F250 pickup truck driven by Darrell Wayne Carlton Jr., 37, of Laurel.

Initially taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, Aorillo was later pronounced dead at the hospital, police said Monday.

Investigators believe Aorillo was driving recklessly at the time of the crash, police said, and any charges against Carlton are pending a review by the Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney’s Office.
