A 56-year-old man suffered burn injuries Sunday after his car caught fire in Churchton.

Firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle fire in the area of Battee Circle and Blossom Parkway at 8:33 p.m., the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said.

Responders found a Mercury Grand Marquis “fully involved in fire and the car’s driver suffering from burn injuries,” the department wrote.

Witnesses told firefighters the car had run off the road and got stuck. When the driver was revving the engine to try to get back on the road, the department said, the engine overheated and caught fire.

The driver, a 56-year-old man not identified by the department, was taken to the Burn Center at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore to be treated for serious injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

A passenger in the vehicle was not injured.
