New assistant principals at four Anne Arundel County high schools

Four county high schools are getting new assistant principals, as part of an ongoing effort to optimize school operations by Superintendent George Arlotto.

These are the new placements, which take effect Tuesday, according to letters sent to families on Monday:

  • Glen Burnie High School Assistant Principal Sean White will move to Old Mill High School
  • Severna Park High School Assistant Principal Bill Smith will move to Glen Burnie High School
  • Chesapeake High School Assistant Principal Kerri Buckley will move to South River High School
  • South River High School Assistant Principal Angela Hopkins will move to Chesapeake High School

White, Smith, Buckley and Hopkins will assume their new posts just weeks before the end of the semester. It’s not uncommon for the school district to move faculty around in this manner, said Bob Mosier, an Anne Arundel County Public Schools spokesperson.

“Continuously, the superintendent looks at staffing arrangements that best suit the needs of schools across the county,” Mosier said.

Severna Park is the only school that will not get a new assistant principal. A successor has not been made, said Principal Patrick Bathras in a letter.
