Man suffers serious injuries in motorcycle crash on I-97

Phil Davis

A 20-year-old man was taken to the hospital with serious injuries after a motorcycle crash on Interstate 97 this afternoon.

Lt. Michael Mayo, spokesman for the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, said the man was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after being involved in a crash near Brightview Drive.

Capt. Russ Davies, another spokesman for the department, said the motorcycle was involved in a single-vehicle crash, but that the driver was then struck by a van.

Davies said the motorcycle driver suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries. No one else was injured in the crash and Davies said the driver of the can remained at the scene.

The Maryland State Highway Administration wrote on social media around 3:30 p.m. that the crash closed two northbound lanes on Interstate 97. The lanes were reopened around 4 p.m.
