Whether the Inner Harbor's "Mr. Trash Wheel" will be getting a brother or a sister will be determined at an event next month, a local nonprofit said.

The Waterfront Partnership of Baltimore will host a "gender reveal party" for the planned Canton water wheel on Sept. 22, the group said in a statement Wednesday.

When purchasing tickets, attendees will be able to vote on the gender of the device, which, if built, will scoop up trash and debris at the mouth of Harris Creek in Canton.

Fundraising is nearly complete for the contraption, which the group says will cost $550,000. More than $538,000 has been raised so far, according to the group's website.

Tickets to the event cost $35 in advance and $40 at the door , the group said. It will be held at the Marriott Waterfront hotel; food and drink will be served.

The hosts will tally up votes during the party and reveal the gender of the new wheel by the end of the night.

"People have been speculating about the gender of the new trash wheel since we announced that we started fundraising for it," Adam Lindquist, the director of the Waterfront Partnership's Healthy Harbor Initiative, said in the statement.

"With this event, we hope to continue to bring awareness to the incredible technology that is cleaning up our Harbor and also to raise enough funds to get the new Trash Wheel installed by the end of this year."
