County police seize drugs, money, Mercedes from Crofton home

Gene Craig Simms, 28, of Annapolis, was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance that is not marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance on school property with intent to distribute, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance that is not marijuana, police said.

Heroin, drug paraphernalia, money and a Mercedes-Benz were seized from a Crofton home located in a school zone Monday after police received numerous complaints from residents about drug activity, county police said.

Detectives executed two search warrants, and seized approximately 8.85 grams of heroin with a street value of $1,062, controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia, a 2000 Mercedes S500 and $1,223, police said.

Police confiscated the car because it may have been used to transport drugs and may have been purchased with proceeds from drug sales, said county police department spokesman Lt. Ryan Frashure.

Simms posted bond of $75,000 and was released from the county detention center on Monday, online court records show.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for June 7.

No attorney was listed for Simms in online court records.

Simms could not be reached for comment on Wednesday.
