Two arrested in double shooting downtown

Baltimore police have made two arrests in Tuesday morning's double shooting downtown.

Two people have been taken into custody in connection with the incident on the 400 block of Water Street, near the intersection of East Baltimore and Commerce streets, according to a statement released by police.

Officers heard four to five shots early Tuesday morning around 2:10 a.m., police said, and responded to the area around the unit block of Commerce Street. They found an adult man on the ground, shot in the upper chest, police said, and a woman, who had been shot in the foot, was inside a car. The injured man came out of surgery Tuesday morning at Maryland Shock Trauma Center and is listed in critical condition, and the woman is listed in good condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Police have not identified either victim.

Police later spotted the white Honda that had described as being the escape vehicle of the two shooters. Inside the vehicle, officers found two people that matched witnesses' descriptions, along with a handgun. Formal charges were forthcoming against the two, according to the statement; their identities have also not been released.

City police were also investigating a shooting that occurred last night. In that incident, a 17-year-old male was shot once in the torso about 9:20 p.m. on the 3300 block of Oakfield Ave., in Northwest Baltimore. He was being treated at an area hospital, according to police.
