Two men shot in city; police arrest man after chase on foot

Police officers chased down a man they saw running with a gun in Southwest Baltimore Wednesday afternoon, apparently moments after he had shot two people in the face and neck, according to a police spokesman.

Officers on patrol came across the scene about 3 p.m. near the 4100 block of Frederick Road and chased the armed man for several blocks. The spokesman, Anthony Guglielmi, said the man threw the gun during the chase and ran into a house.

Police followed the man inside and arrested him and a suspected accomplice. Guglielmi said police do not yet know if the men knew the people in the house, which is a few blocks from the shooting scene.

As officers chased the gunman, Guglielmi said residents called 911 to report a shooting. Police responded to the 4100 block of Frederick Road and found two adult male victims. One had been shot in the face; the other in the neck, Guglielmi said.

Both victims were taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center and were listed in serious condition on Wednesday afternoon. Detectives have not determined a motive.
