A gunman in a black Range Rover opened fire on a car speeding west on U.S. 50 near Annapolis early Saturday morning, hitting the vehicle with a dozen bullets and slightly injuring one man inside, according to the Maryland State Police.

A trooper discovered the shooting about three hours after it occurred when he stopped to help the occupants of a disabled 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo on the shoulder of U.S. 50 at the Anne Arundel/Prince George's County line.

State police said in a statement that the victims did not call police. They identified the wounded man as Kevin A. Brown, 24, of Upper Marlboro, who suffered two minor graze wounds to his shoulder from flying glass or bullet fragments. The other occupant, Justin L. Bentley, 24, of Columbia, was not injured.

Police said they are searching for the black Range Rover seen heading west on Interstate 97 from Annapolis. Police said the driver of the Monte Carlo got several miles from the shooting scene before having to stop because a tire punctured by a bullet had shredded. Police said the vehicle's rear driver's-side window had shattered and there were several bullet holes in the side.

The shooting occurred about 4:30 a.m. The victims told police they had been headed back from a club in Washington east on U.S. 50 but had missed the I-97 exit. They doubled back, heading west when the occupants told police a passenger in the Range Rover lowered his window and fired with a dark-colored handgun.
