A 47-year-old man was injured after getting into an altercation Wednesday night in Southeast Baltimore's Greektown community in what was initially reported as a shooting, police said. The victim was walking with a friend in an alley behind the 400 block of S. Lehigh St. about 9:45 p.m. when two men attacked them, according to police. The suspects ran away and returned a few minutes later. Police said one pulled a handgun from his waistband and fired a shot. Detective Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman, said the bullet missed the victim, but he suffered a cut to his head when he was struck with a stick. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Police initially reported the victim had been shot and was in critical condition. The attackers fled in a white vehicle, police said. A motive was not provided.
