20-year-old man found dead with gunshot wound to the head in West Baltimore

A 20-year-old man was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head Saturday in West Baltimore.

Officers found the man lying in an alley in the 600 block of N. Dukeland St. around 11 a.m. after police received a call to check on his well-being.

He was pronounced dead on the scene. Police did not provide his name.

The man was the 1,000th person to be killed in Baltimore since the start of 2015.

The shooting follows a string of others over the weekend.

A 45-year-old man was found dead around 12:35 a.m. Saturday after being shot in the chest in Northwest Baltimore while seated in the driver’s seat of a 2011 Hyundai Elantra.

Police responded to the shooting in the 4900 block of Pembridge Ave. The victim’s identity was not released.

Three other people were injured in recent shootings, including a man who was shot in the leg Friday evening at Broadway and East Eager Street in East Baltimore. A 56-year-old woman was shot in the leg around 9:10 p.m. Friday in the 4400 block of Pennington Ave. in South Baltimore, and a 44-year-old man was shot in his right thigh around the same time in the 100 block of Highland Ave. in East Baltimore.
