Two men believed to be tied to a string of bank robberies in the Baltimore area are in custody, the FBI Baltimore said Thursday.
The two are suspected of robbing at least nine banks in Baltimore, Catonsville and Nottingham, the FBI said. No one was injured in the robberies, but one of the suspects displayed a handgun during one of the robberies.
Earl Shelton Smith, one of the suspects, was taken into custody on Thursday. The other suspect, Sheamon Perlie, was taken into custody on Sunday in Richmond, Va., and was extradited to Baltimore. He is being held on state charges, the FBI said.
Court records for them were not immediately available and it could not be learned whether they had lawyers.
