A traffic stop, a car crash and a shot fired

A traffic stop in the Irvington neighborhood Friday night resulted un a car crash and a shot fired into the air. No one was hurt, and the suspect was taken into custody.

Just before 9 p.m. officers witnessed a traffic violation near Frederick and Athol avenues and tried to stop the vehicle. Instead, the vehicle sped off and struck an occupied marked squad car in a parking lot in the 4400 block of Frederick Avenue, according to Baltimore Police Det.Jeremy Silbert.

As the man was being arrested, one of the officers fired his gun, Silbert said.

A medic examined both the suspect and the officer, but neither appears to have been injured.

The investigation is continuing.
