Inmate on road crew takes off, remains missing

A Maryland inmate on a supervised road crew took off Monday morning and remains missing, state correctional officials said.

Authorities continue to search for Rapheal Johnson, 30, who walked away before the road crew departed from the Dorsey Run Correctional Facility, Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services officials said.

"He was about to leave for a road crew assignment with other inmates when he left the area of the facility, which houses minimum-security inmates who are within two to three years of re-entering society," according to Mark A. Vernarelli, spokesman for the department.

Johnson is serving a five year sentence for armed robbery and drug charges. He is 6-foot-1 and weighs 220 pounds.

Police said anyone with information about Johnson's whereabouts should call 911, and should not try to approach him.
