Man shot dead sitting in car in Northwest Baltimore

A man is dead after he was shot in a car in Northwest Baltimore just after midnight Saturday, police said.

On Saturday around 12:35 a.m., police said they responded to a shooting at the 4900 block of Pembridge Avenue in Northwest Baltimore where a 45-year-old man, seated in the driver’s seat of a 2011 Hyundai Elantra, was suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Medics pronounced him dead on the scene, police said.

Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting, police said.

The shooting follows a stretch in which three other people were injured in recent shootings, according to Baltimore Police.

On Friday evening, police said they responded to a shooting on at Broadway and E. Eager Street in East Baltimore, where a man was shot in the leg. The victim was transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injury. Police said the call for the shooting came just shortly after they had pursued a male suspect around 5 p.m., who discarded a loaded .45 caliber semiautomatic handgun. The suspect was not caught.

Later in the night, around 9:10 p.m., police said they responded to a shooting at the 4400 block of Pennington Avenue in South Baltimore, where they found a 56-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. The woman, who was later transported to an area hospital and is now in good condition, said that she heard gunshots when walking out of a corner store. Once she realized she had been shot, she ran back inside. The woman said she did not see the shooter, police said.

Police responded to another shooting around 9:25 p.m. Friday at the 100 block of Highland Avenue in East Baltimore. There, they found a 44-year-old man who was shot in his right thigh. The victim, now in serious condition, was transported to an area hospital.

Police on Saturday also identified the victim in a Dec. 20 homicide Villani Campbell, 22, of the 3900 block of Dolfield Avenue, was shot in the 800 block of W. Lexington Street, according to police. Homicide detectives are investigating.
