Man in Ocean City police custody dies after arrest on drug charges

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) — Maryland State Police say they're investigating the death of a man after he was arrested on drug charges by Ocean City police.

State police say in a statement that 37-year-old Jerry Weston of Greenwood, Delaware, was pronounced dead at Atlantic General Hospital early Sunday morning.

Weston had been taken to the hospital from the city police booking facility. City police say in a statement that they called an ambulance after Weston complained of breathing difficulty.

They say Western had a seizure and went into cardiac arrest as the ambulance arrived. An autopsy will determine the cause of death.

Police say Weston was arrested with two others in a vehicle that contained 1,500 packets of heroin.

City police spokeswoman Lindsay Richard says Weston was black and the arresting officer was white.
