The Maryland Judiciary issued a warning Thursday about an email scam that falsely claimed the recipient had missed jury service, enticing them to click on a link that may contain malware.
The Maryland Judiciary said the phishing scam was reported by multiple people in Prince George's County but that it may be affecting people in other counties. The email claims to be from the "Clerk to the Court" and says that it is a "final notice" for "failure to appear as scheduled for jury service." The email provides a link with the instructions to review the information, "after which you may be contacted and required to appear in court before a judge."
The judiciary advised anyone receiving such an email to delete it immediately and not reply or click on the link or open any attachments. The email could install malware on a user's computer.
