A 51-year-old inmate died at the Jessup Correctional Institution after suffering "an apparent seizure" Monday night, according to the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
The man was pronounced dead at the prison by a responding Anne Arundel County paramedic about 10:15 p.m., said Gerard Shields, a department spokesman. Before his death, Jessup staff and other inmates had "tried to assist him," Shields said.
The man was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder, Shields said. He was not identified, pending the notification of his family, which Shields said officials at the prison were working on Tuesday.
"As is procedure, the body was turned over to the Maryland State Medical Examiner" for autopsy, Shields said.
