Car dealer Antwerpen arrested for unlicensed firearms on yacht in New York

Local car dealer Jacob "Jack" Antwerpen was arrested in New York on Wednesday after authorities determined he did not have a current license for several firearms found on his yacht, according to the New York Police Department.

Police spokesman Sgt. Brendan Ryan said U.S. Coast Guard officers pulled over Antwerpen's yacht at around 4 p.m. on July 27 to do a routine vessel inspection, which officials said is common in New York waterways.

During the inspection, officials said they determined that he had one handgun, two shotguns and a rifle in a safe on his boat.

"He was a gentleman, and acknowledged that there were firearms on board, and acknowledged that they were his firearms," said Ryan, who said police later learned he was the Maryland car dealer.

Antwerpen had a carry permit, but it was expired, Ryan said. He was briefly taken into custody by the New York Police Department Harbor Unit, issued a desk appearance ticket and released.

Antwerpen could not be reached for comment.
