A inmate was killed at a state prison in Washington County on Monday night, said Maryland State Police, who have identified but not charged a suspect.
The inmate was identified as Benjamin Hall, 26. He was serving a sentence of 7 years for theft at Maryland Correctional Institute Hagerstown. Police said Hall may have been in a fight with another inmate inside of Hall's cell, and the inmate then called for correctional officers around 10:30 p.m. Medical staff were unable to revive Hall, who was pronounced dead.
Maryland State Police responded to the scene around 11 p.m. and took over the homicide investigation. Police said the suspect is also an inmate but declined to identify him until he is charged. Hall's body will be autopsied.
