Catonsville hit-and-run crash kills 12-year-old girl, injures pregnant woman, Baltimore County police say

A 12-year-old girl was killed and a pregnant woman was injured Friday evening in a hit-and-run crash on North Rolling Road in Catonsville, Baltimore County police said.

Police identified the girl Saturday morning as Maria Popal. She was taken to Sinai Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The woman, 32, was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening wounds but was in stable condition as of Saturday morning, police said, although the condition of her pregnancy was unclear.

The victims were crossing North Rolling Road at Johnnycake Road when they were struck at about 9:20 p.m., police said.

Police are seeking the driver, who made no attempt to stop, police said.

Police described the vehicle described as an older model Honda Accord — possibly 1990-91 — and possibly darker colored. “The Honda Accord should have damage to the front passenger side of the vehicle,” police said in a news release.

The Baltimore County Police Crash Investigation Team asks anyone who might have information on the incident to contact police at 410-307-2020. Anonymous tips can be sent to Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
