An 18-year-old former University of Maryland employee has been charged with writing racially charged words on a men’s bathroom stall in the Ellicott Dining Hall in October, according to University of Maryland police.
Terrell Demonte Alexander of Lanham was charged Wednesday with two counts of malicious destruction of property for the incident that occurred at the College Park campus between Oct. 22 and Oct. 23, and on Nov. 3.
"We take incidents of hate-bias in our community very seriously, which is reflected in the extensive effort to identify the individual responsible,” said University Police Chief David B. Mitchell.
Mitchell said officers had spent many hours reviewing video tapes and interviewing potential witnesses. The Maryland State Police Forensic Science Division analyzed handwriting samples.
Online court records do not list an attorney for Alexander. He is scheduled to appear in court in February.
