Elkton man charged with killing 2 teens who remain missing

A 30-year-old Elkton man has been indicted in the killing of two teens who disappeared in August 2014 — and whose bodies have yet to be found.

Elkton Police said Donald Ray Bennett was charged by a Cecil County grand jury with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Ricardo Eugene Levenberry, 19, and Jesse Grant Veasey Jr., 16.

The teens were last seen in the Hollingsworth Manor area, separately climbing into a blue color Chevrolet driven by a heavy-set white male. Police located the driver and interviewed him, but said at the time that he told them the boys had been dropped off "safe and sound" and he was not charged.

Capt. Joseph Zurolo, an Elkton Police spokesman, confirmed that Bennett was the man interviewed at that time.

Levenberry and Veasey have not been found. But police now say investigators "uncovered evidence that indicates that Mr. Bennett was involved in the disappearances and deaths" of the teens.

Zurolo declined to comment further on the case, saying it was an ongoing investigation.

Veasey went missing on Aug. 18, and Levenberry went missing Aug. 19.

On Aug. 10, Bennett burglarized an Elkton auto parts shop, stealing several items including a fuel pump, shop vac, spark plugs, and containers of hydraulic oil, the Cecil Whig reported at the time. Police posted Bennett's picture on their web site as a "wanted" individual, and he turned himself in on Aug. 21.

Last month, he was sentenced to there years in prison on those charges, court records show.

Records show he was also indicted in February with having a weapon in his jail cell.
