BALTIMORE (AP) — Two animal rights organizations are offering rewards for information leading to the conviction of those responsible for putting a small dog in a trash bag and setting it on fire.
The Humane Society of the United States and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals said in news releases on Monday that each group is offering a reward of up to $5,000.
Firefighters found the dog on July 27 after responding to a fire in northeast Baltimore, Baltimore Police said.
The small terrier mix was pronounced dead at the scene and animal control was called.
Authorities believe someone put the dog inside the bag and set it on fire. The Humane Society says the dog was probably a family pet, because it was wearing a red harness.
