Baltimore man charged with stealing ambulance on Eastern Shore

A Maryland man is facing charges after stealing an ambulance, state police said.

Authorities said troopers were contacted shortly after 8 p.m. Friday regarding an unoccupied Dorchester County Emergency Medical Services ambulance that was stolen from outside the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester.

Troopers spotted the ambulance traveling west on Route 50 in Cambridge.

Investigators said 52-year-old Augustus Redditt of Baltimore activated the ambulance’s emergency equipment in an effort to move vehicles out of the way.

Police said Redditt eventually lost control of the ambulance near Tarbutton Mill Road and crashed.

Redditt was treated for his injuries and charged with vehicle theft, driving under the influence, drug possession and related traffic offenses.

It’s unclear whether he has a lawyer.
