A 16-year-old has been charged as an adult after Baltimore County police say he pointed a gun at another high school student when they got off the school bus last week.

Shane Kaleipaihala Pule Jr., a junior at Kenwood High School, faces charges that include first-degree assault, police said Thursday.

According to police, Pule and a sophomore were dropped off at Elm Drive and Wilson Point Road the afternoon of Sept. 23, and the sophomore approached Pule to confront him about a previous incident. Pule allegedly pulled a .45-caliber handgun from his backpack and pointed it at the other student, who was not injured, police said.

Pule was released on $100,000 bail, authorities said.

County schools spokesman Mychael Dickerson said the principal of Kenwood sent a phone notification about the incident to parents because "there were a lot of rumors" in the community about it.

A police report indicates the handgun belonged to Pule's father, police spokesman Cpl. John Wachter said.

No attorney is listed in online court records for Pule. His father could not be reached for comment.
