A Baltimore County judge this week sentenced a man to 45 years in the 2014 murder of a man in Lochearn.
Charlie William Jones, 21, was convicted in February of first-degree murder and firearm violations in the September 2014 death of Jonathan Michael Watkins, 20, of Windsor Mill.
Watkins was found by police at the corner of Sedgemoor and Marston roads, with a gunshot wound to the back of his head, according to the Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office.
Police discovered Watkins was with an acquaintance when Jones approached and shot him, prosecutors said. Surveillance video from a Shell gas station showed Jones getting out of a car and walking toward where the shooting happened. The same car picked up Jones after the shooting, they said.
Prosecutors were unable to conclusively prove a motive but believe it was related to a dispute, State's Attorney Scott Shellenberger said.
Judge Sherrie Bailey on Monday gave Jones a life sentence with all but 40 years suspended, plus five years for firearms violations.
Jones' defense attorney, Margaret Mead, said "it was a very tragic case all the way around."
"Charlie Jones comes from a really good family and shouldn't have been out there, and is extremely remorseful," she said.
