A Michigan woman is being charged in the death of a Randallstown man who was found fatally shot in his home earlier this month, Baltimore County police said Wednesday.
County police have obtained an arrest warrant for Deidra Veella Griffin of the 2100 block of Midland Avenue in Bay City, Michigan, charging her first-degree murder and handgun violations in the death of 51-year-old Lonnie Bernard Paye Jr.
Police said he and Griffin had previously been in a relationship, and that Griffin had lived in Maryland for several years. Griffin moved to Michigan while she was pregnant with their child, a boy who is less than a year old, according to police. Investigators learned there was a custody dispute involving the baby.
Police went to Paye's home in the 4300 block of Travancore Road just before 8 p.m. on July 1 after a concerned caller dialed 911, and officers found him on the floor with at least one gunshot wound.
Griffin was taken into custody around 5 p.m. Monday at her Bay City home. She remains in Michigan awaiting extradition to Maryland.
Bay County Prosecutor Kurt C. Asbury says investigators found evidence believed to be linked to Paye's death at the home where Griffin was arrested.
A judge said he would appoint Griffin an attorney to represent her on the matter of extradition. She said via video that she's not a flight risk, but the judge did not grant bond.
An extradition hearing is scheduled for Aug. 2.
Maryland online court records do not list any prior criminal charges against Griffin.
