The driver of a SUV who allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian in Baltimore County Sunday morning contacted authorities later in the day, police said.
At about 1:30 a.m., Maryland State Police said the driver of a blue 2001 BMW X5 sports utility vehicle struck a pedestrian standing next to a Mazda 3 while driving north on the ramp from Jones Falls Expressway to Interstate 695. The Mazda was parked on the right shoulder and was hit by the BMW, police said. The BMW allegedly fled the scene, police said.
State police identified the victim as Ramon J. Purvey, 30, of Owings Mills, and said he died at the scene.
The driver and her attorney went to state police Sunday afternoon about the crash, police said. Troopers have recovered the car, which belonged to a relative, and are processing it for evidence, police said.
Police did not file charges on Sunday but said they are pending after a consultation with the state's attorney's office.
The cause and contributing factors of the crash remain under investigation.
Any witnesses to this collision are asked to contact Trooper Wilson at 410-780-2700.
