A man was seriously injured and flown by state police helicopter to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, Fire Captain Tim Rostkowski said. The victim’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening Monday afternoon, he said.

Rostkowski said firefighters were still working to put out flames at about 3:30 p.m. Fire investigators were responding to the home to investigate the cause of the blaze, but Rostkowski said the department doesn’t have any reason to believe the cause of the fire to be suspicious as of Monday afternoon.

Only one person was inside the home at the time of the explosion.

The department posted pictures on Twitter that showed the single-story home with signification damage to the roof and the front entrance to the home. Debris was left scattered in the yard, including windows that appeared to have been blown out during the explosion.

“There’s significant damage. It moved the house off the foundation,” Rostkowski said.

Neighboring homes did not appear to have any damage, he said.

The fire was a single alarm, with 20 pieces equipment and 60 to 80 firefighters responding to the blaze.

Both directions of Annapolis Road, about 2 blocks north and south of the home, was shut down to traffic Monday afternoon, he said.
