A man has been charged with first-degree murder in the killing of his roommate in Dundalk Monday afternoon, county police said Tuesday.

According to police, the suspect, Michael Anthony Huth, 58, had been living with the victim, John Thomas Thorton, 59, for six years on the 2100 block of Cameron Drive. Police said Huth struck Thornton multiple times with a baseball bat. Thornton was declared deceased at the scene.

Police said they responded to the apartment around 1 p.m. Monday after a family member had called for police to check on Thorton, who police found with trauma to his upper body.

What prompted the assault remains unknown, police said. The case remains under investigation by the Baltimore County Police Homicide Unit.

Huth is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center.
