21-year-old Morgan State student identified as victim in fatal shooting in Towson commercial parking lot Monday

Baltimore County Police are investigating the shooting death of a 21-year-old Morgan State University student Monday night in the parking lot of The Shops at Kenilworth in Towson.

Investigators believe the victim, Barry Ransom, was targeted, according to a news release, but did not provide additional information.

A spokesman for Morgan State University confirmed that Ransom, of Philadelphia, was a junior accounting major.

“Together as a community we mourn this tragic loss of life and offer our deepest sympathies to the Ransom family,” the school said in a message to the university community Wednesday morning. “We ask that you please keep them and their extended family and friends in prayer during this difficult time.”

Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Kenilworth Drive around 10:23 p.m. for a shooting. Police found Ransom suffering from “at least one gunshot wound,” authorities said. He died several hours later at a hospital.

Police spokeswoman Joy Stewart said the shooting occurred in the parking lot of The Shops a Kenilworth, which is home to a Trader Joe’s grocery and apartments.
