Kevron Evans, the Baltimore rapper better known as Young Moose, pleaded guilty to a handgun charge Wednesday in Baltimore Circuit Court.
Evans is to be sentenced to three years in prison, according to his attorney Richard C.B. Woods and a staffer for Judge Timothy Doory. Because Evans has been held on the charges since March, Woods said, he could be released in six to nine months.
Evans, 23, became one of the city's most popular rappers, scoring a local hit with the song "Dumb Dumb" and recording with the New Orleans rapper Boosie Badazz. But a series of arrests have kept him in and out of jail and courtrooms for the past two years.
Woods had previously accused police of harassing his client.
The latest charges stemmed from a series of raids police conducted at locations including his mother's home and an East Baltimore clothing store.
They came just two weeks before Evans was to face trial on drug charges. In that case, police cited his lyrics and imagery from his music videos in a search warrant.
"It seems to me every time he is approaching trial, this kind of stuff happens," Woods said earlier this year. "I don't know what the solution is, except to finish out the last case and get the hell out of Baltimore."
A judge dismissed the drug charges at trial on March 17.
Evans was also accused last fall of threatening a woman with a gun. A judge allowed him to leave jail with a monitoring device so he could continue filming a movie. Prosecutors dropped all charges in that case in December.
While he was incarcerated, Evans' brother was killed in Belair-Edison. Kevin Evans Jr., 26, was shot May 17. And Lor Scoota, another popular local rapper with whom Evans had formed an alliance, was shot to death in Northeast Baltimore in June.
After Evans entered his plea Wednesday, Woods said the rapper was looking forward to getting his career back on track.
