Three people were killed and four others seriously injured in a spate of violence across Baltimore Thursday night, city police said.
One man died and a second was injured when a gunman approached their car in the 5900 block of Winthrop Avenue around 7:30 p.m. and opened fire in Northeast Baltimore Thursday night.
Police said Brian Tabb, 24, of the same block, was shot multiple times in the upper torso. He was pronounced dead Johns Hopkins Hospital. The second victim was shot in the knee and taken to an area hospital for a non life-threatening injury.
About half an hour earlier, officers responded to Barclay and Lanvale streets west of Green Mount Cemetery in East Baltimore for report of discharging.
After arriving at the location, a call for a shooting nearby in the 400 block of Pitman Place, where officers found a 25-year-old man who had been shot in the back. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital where he was pronounced dead early Friday morning.
Police said a third man was killed in an earlier shooting in an alley in Poppleton, near the 1100 block of W. Saratoga Street Officers were called at about 4:21 p.m. and found a 28-year-old victim later identified as James Dankins, of the 4100 block of Parkside Drive.
He was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he died.
Thursday's violence puts the city at five homicides in the first week of 2016, after a the city saw a record number of 344 killings last year.
Baltimore police on Thursday also responded to four non-fatal shootings. Officers were called 8:20 p.m. in the 5440 Gardenwood Road in Frankford in Northeast Baltimore where they found a 24-year-old man injured. He was taken to an area hospital and is in serious condition.
The victim told police he was approached by an unidentified suspect near Moores Run and Denview Way when the suspect opened fire. He managed to run to the 5400 block of Gardenwood Road where he found someone to call the police.
Shortly after 10 p.m., officers were 1300 block of N. Carey Street in the west side community of Sandtown-Winchester where a 20-year-old man had been shot in the chest. He was taken to the hospital and is in critical condition.
The victim told detectives he was walking down the street when he was shot, but police said did not provide any additional information about the circumstance of the shooting.
At 11:34 p.m. police responded to the intersection of Boarman Avenue and Garrison Boulevard in Northwest Baltimore where they found a 39-year-old woman who had been shot in the face. She was taken to an area hospital and is in critical condition.

And at just before midnight, an officer was in the area of 1000 Greenmount Avenue in East Baltimore heard numerous gunshots and found a 26-year old man who was also shot in the face. He was taken to the hospital and is in serious but stable condition.
Police said the shooting occurred in the 700 block of E. Eager Street
