10 shot, one dead in two hours of weekend violence in Baltimore

Baltimore police said one is dead & 10 were shot -- including 7 at one scene -- in 2-hour span early Sunday.

A 28-year-old man is dead, another is in serious condition, and eight others were injured in early Sunday shootings — including seven in one incident — in Baltimore, police said.

The shootings took place in a two-hour span, beginning around 12:30 a.m., and culminating in a seven-victim incident just before 3 a.m. on Sunday.

A 28-year-old man died after being shot multiple times in the face and chest in the 200 block of N. Payson St. in the Penrose/Fayette Street Outreach neighborhood. Officers found him at 2:26 a.m., and he was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The homicide is the second in August — a man was shot in the head early Saturday — after 45 people were killed in a record-setting month of July.

About 20 minutes after the homicide, police responded to an area hospital where five people walked in with gunshot wounds. Shortly thereafter, officers encountered two additional victims from the same incident — which police said transpired in the 2700 block of Garrison Avenue in the Central Park Heights neighborhood. All seven victims suffered gunshot wounds to their legs, and were listed in stable condition, police said.

The victims included 20- and 23-year-old women, and men ranging in ages from 22 to 25.

Northwest District detectives are investigating and anyone with information may call 410-396-2466.

The first reports of violence began in the 2400 block of Woodbrook Avenue in the Penn North neighborhood, when officers, on roving patrol in the 2400 block of Etting Street, heard gunshots. A 20-year-old man was found shot in the leg and suffering from a graze wound to his head, police said. He was listed in stable condition at an area hospital, police said Sunday.

At 1:22 a.m. in the 2200 block of Fayette Street in the Penrose/Fayette Street Outreach neighborhood, police found a 21-year-old man shot multiple times in the chest and torso. He was listed in serious condition at an area hospital, police said.

Western District detectives are investigating both incidents, and anyone with information may call 410-396-2477.

Editor's note: This story has been updated. An earlier version of this story gave the wrong block number of a multi-victim shooting, based upon information from Baltimore police. Seven people were shot on Garrison Avenue.
