5-year-old boy shoots self in foot, Baltimore police say

A crime scene technician picked up a blood-soaked, white towel in a West Baltimore alley where police said a 5-year-old boy had shot himself in the foot Sunday afternoon.

Officers responded at about 2:23 p.m. and found the child in the alley off of the 200 block of N. Mount St. in Franklin Square, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition.

Citing an "active investigation," police did not say how the boy got the gun or whether they have identified anyone suspected of leaving it unattended. Western District detectives are investigating, and anyone with information may call 410-396-2477.

At about the same time, a 34-year-old man was shot more than once in the back and neck in the 2900 block of Mosher St. in the Franklintown Road neighborhood. Southwest District detectives are investigating, and anyone with information may call 410-396-2488.

Later Sunday, a 20-year-old man was shot in the shoulder at E. Federal and N. Bond streets in Oliver, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition. Eastern District detectives are investigating, and anyone with information may call 410-396-2433.

No further information was released in any of the incidents.

A 49-year-old man was shot to death in Northeast Baltimore in the early hours of Sunday, police said.
