Homicide detectives called to daytime shooting in Northwest Baltimore

Detectives are investigating a homicide in Northwest Baltimore, police said.

Police said a man was found dead in the 4500 block of Fernhill Ave., in the West Arlington neighborhood. Officers found his body at about 11:55 a.m. in a rear alley of Fernhill Avenue. The victim appeared to have some type of trauma to his head, police said.


"At this time, investigators are unable to determine how the victim died," police spokesman Det. Jeremy Silbert said in a statement. "The victim will be transported to the Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy."

The discovery of the man's body followed a separate incident early Thursday in West Baltimore, in which a woman was shot inside a house multiple times.


Police found the 27-year-old woman shot at her home in the first block of N. Poppleton Street in the Poppleton neighborhood shortly after 8 a.m. She was taken to a hospital and is expected to survive,  police said.

Information on a suspect or a motive in the attack was unavailable.

In another incident, a 45-year-old man was shot in his chest and arm after an attempted robbery in Allendale Thursday night, police said.

The man showed up at an area hospital with gunshot wounds and told investigators an unknown suspect shot him while trying to rob him  in the 100 block of S. Culver St.

The suspect wasn't able to get any money from the man and ran away, police said.
