A man was shot twice on a street in Baltimore late Tuesday night in the latest in a string of shootings in the city in recent days, according to Baltimore Police.
A woman also reported being grazed by a bullet in an incident early Wednesday morning, but medical staff and police have since determined she was injured in some other way, police said.
In an 80-hour period ending Tuesday, 20 other people had been shot in Baltimore.
Both victims arrived wounded at local hospitals.
Police established the first incident, in which a 20-year-old man was shot in the leg and arm, occurred in the 1100 block of Laurens Street on the western edge of the city's Upton neighborhood, near the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood.
The man told police he was outside talking with a group of friends when an unknown suspect approached the group and opened fire, said Detective Angela Carter-Watson, a police spokeswoman.
The man, who was the only person injured in the gunfire, ran down the block and the suspect fled, Carter-Watson said. The man then took himself to a local hospital, where police were alerted.
In the second incident, officers were dispatched to an area hospital about 4:37 a.m. after a woman arrived there with a graze wound to her arm, Carter-Watson said.
"She said she heard something that sounded like gun shots, and she just started running," said Carter-Watson. "When she got home, she felt something hot."
The woman assumed she had been grazed by a bullet, and police had reported the incident as a non-fatal shooting, but medical staff and police investigating the incident determined that was not the case, Carter-Watson said. How the women sustained the injury is unknown.
The woman's age was not immediately available.
