Man shot in 2007 dies; homicide investigation remains open

A decade after he was paralyzed in a shooting, Lyndon Waddell Jr. died this year from an infection that an autopsy concluded was a direct result of the gunshot wound.

Waddell, 29, died April 8 at Johns Hopkins Hospital and his remains were taken to the state medical examiner. Police announced Saturday that the shooting was upgraded to a homicide. The investigation remains open.

Waddell was shot Jan. 5, 2007, in the 1700 block of Carswell St. near Clifton Park in Northeast Baltimore, about a block from where he was living at the time. Then 19, Waddell was transported to Hopkins in critical condition and was immediately taken into surgery. Police said he was paralyzed as a result of being shot in the back.
